  • Remove Windows Server 2008 & install Vista

    Hi,
This is my first post and I'm a bit computer challenged. My son purchased a new computer off craigslist that had a trial version of windows server 2008 (39 days left) that won't run his games - we don't have the disc and can't get a hold of the seller.

We just bought Vista Home premium 32 bit but cannot install it. When runniing the disc from start up, it doesn't recognize any drive (there are 2 hard drives) & no option to browse or select a drive. When running the disc from start >run the drives show up but it says a driver is missing [AMD AHCI Compatible RAID Controller] Have downloaded & installed according to directions what I thought was the driver but it doesn't seem to be recognized & can't get any further than this screen - have tried browse and selected the folder the file is in.

I can't seem to uninstall server 2008 at all. Have tried to format the drive - won't let me because windows is on it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance.

His didiag file is below if it helps:

Re: Remove Windows Server 2008 & install Vista

    Hi lfarrow,

Sounds like you don't have the correct raid drivers still? Did you get them from here?

    http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/M...ProductID=2814

You will need to extract them onto a floppy or flash drive and then select them during the vista installation.

Thanks for taking the time to post lots of info btw, it does help
    cheers
    Andy

Thank you so much Andy. I spent 5 hours trying to figure this out yesterday. I had the right drivers but I didn't extract them.

      All the best to you.

Re: Remove Windows Server 2008 & install Vista

          Hello,

I thought I should let you know about an excellent website : http://www.win2008workstation.com. They outline how to get your apps and games working properly on Win2008.

I have found that running Win2008 as a general workstation / games box gives excellent performance and leaves Vista / XP in the dust. I would recommend checking this out before you remove Win2008 as there are a couple of dlls from Vista that games need which are missing from Win2008.
This site has them available for download.

          Hope this helps.

Please re-read the first post, as it was a TRIAL version of Server 2008, so it is not useful for ANYONE after it expires.
