  • Windows Vista doesn't register ocx files

    Hi all.

I am trying to install vsFlexGrid 8 on Windows Vista Business N.
The installtion seems to end successfully.
However when i try to manually register vsflex8.ocx and vsflex8l.ocx, i get an error message saying:
    [QUATE]
The module "C:\Windows\System32\vsflex8.ocx" was loaded but the call to DllRegisterServer failed with error code 0x8002801c.
    [/QUATE]
    (screen shot attached)

I am an administrator and my UAC is disabled.
I tried to run the registeration with elevaded CMD and still i have the same error.
Why doesn't "regsvr32.exe" register the ocx?

    Thanks

I've really no idea but this may help?

    http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/Sho...17289&SiteID=1

    and this

    http://support.softartisans.com/kbview_865.aspx

implies it may be a reg permissions problem.
    cheers

        johngalt: 32 bit.

AndyJG247: Yes, i read those articales before i post thei thread.
I checked with ProcMon, i looked at the registry and the keys are with full control permissions.
        The problem is still exists.

Just in case, if you have checked the permissions did you see if they were inherited down as well?
          cheers

Re: Windows Vista doesn't register ocx files

AndyJG247: Yes. i also checked that.

I think i found the source of this evil:
Prior to the vsFlex installtion i installed Crystal Report 8.
During this installation a component called: "Crystal Reports Server" was installed.
Now, aside of this component being totaly unnecessary to me it is also deleting the permissions of some dll's and ocx's entries in the registry ().

So now i am going to fix around 150 registry entires and than i'll try again the vsFlex installation. (Thank you so much CR8...)

Re: Windows Vista doesn't register ocx files

Update: I finally finished with the registry fix (I added permissions to more than 200 entries).
BTW, i used "Procmon" to discover which entires are giving ACCESDENIED result.

The results so far are: i succedded to register my own developed Dll's but i still have the same error message when i try to register a Dll or an Ocx file in the System32 folder.

Is there a known issue with regsvr32 on Vista?

                Thanks!

Which .DLL specifically are you trying to register?

Re: Windows Vista doesn't register ocx files

                    I'm trying to register vsflex8.ocx (VideoSoft FlexGrid 8 ).

Just for testing i also tried to register any DLL or OCX file in folder "C:\Windows\System32" and i get the same error.

Re: Windows Vista doesn't register ocx files

Oddly, it seem that the registration was unneccessary.

I installed the program (VideoSoft VlexGrid 8 - payed and legal) , than i replaced the ocx filed with those of the newer version and it works without any unregister/register!

I hope this is the happy end for this thread.

                      Thanks everybody.

Re: Windows Vista doesn't register ocx files

I hear something if you vlite your vista if you remove a required component you will not be able to register ocx files

did you do this and use dependcy walker and open your ocx file maybe a required dll is not present on your system
