  • Cannot run Windows Update on Windows Vista Machine

    Hi
I have a Windows Vista ultimate machine in my network.I am not able to run a windows Update. It gives an error
Windows could not search for new updates.
    Errors found:Code 8024402C.
There is a Microsoft KB Article that suggests Selecting the Automatically detect settings in the internet explorer.
It doesn,t help.I have a ISA 2006 Server in my network.I have created a rule on ISA to allow the Updates to Microsoft.update .com.

    Please Advice.
    Regards,
    Imran

Re: Cannot run Windows Update on Windows Vista Machine

There are several reasons why this error can occur, they are well documented.

Although this relates to XP the problem you describe also relates to proxy settings or a problem with passing the ISA server

Re: Cannot run Windows Update on Windows Vista Machine

If you have your proxy settings set in IE on the machine you are having problems with you can do the following to import your proxy information to make Windows Update work correctly:

      1. Go to Start->All Programs->Accessories and right click on Command Prompt and select “Run as Administrator”
      2. Type NETSH in the command prompt and press ENTER
      3. Type WINHTTP and press ENTER
      4. Type IMPORT PROXY IE and press ENTER

We were having the same issue where I work and this has resolved it.
