I already tried that... still the same.
It does require you to press CTRL+ALT+DEL, but after you do you still go back to the "welcome screen".

Re: How do you cancel the "Welcome screen" in vista?

The first one seemed to have helped, but not entirely.
It stiill displays the "Welcome Screen" but now you cannot choose users and you have to type in their name, but if the computer is locked you cant login as another user like in 2K/XP.

Also, it did'nt disable the Fast-User switching like in XP, and I would also like to diable this option as well.

          Thank you.

Ok, we're nearly there, but I've done a bit of Googling for you today, and now I'm not able to access a Vista PC for a few days so now you'll need to do some searching to help yourself a bit, so you could try http://www.google.com/search?q=disab...x=&startPage=1

Well, if you find a nice tidy solution, do post it as a reply in this thread, then others who are curious can see what you found out!

                Thanks.

Re: How do you cancel the "Welcome screen" in vista?

                  Well, I did find something.
in gpedit.msc go to Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> System -> Logon
There you have both "Always use classic logon" and "Hide entry points for Fast User Switching"

The only thing I havent been able to solve yet is the problem with logging into another user when the computer is locked.

Re: How do you cancel the "Welcome screen" in vista?

After making a few tests it looks like the "Always use classic logon" has no effect whatsoever in vista , the only way to disable the welcome screen is by setting the "Interactive logon: Do not display last user name" in Secpol.msc as described above.
