  • I want to go back to XP...?

I up-graded to Vista Basic Home and I started getting too many error's to overcome. So, I have my XP Pro CD and format and tried to install XP clean BUT the install gets BSOD..... well, it just doesn't want to install now after Vista has been there.

    Whats up with this...?

Are you booting from the XP CD or trying to run it from inside Vista?

I formatted C: and booted up with my XP CD, it's just that there must be hidden junk still on the hard-drive as the XP CD starts to install some files and gives up with array of BSOD screens.

        1. And how did you format c: ?

        2.
        • Insert XP CD.
        • Boot from XP CD
        • Delete Partition
        • Create Partition
        • Install XP

Are those the steps you have taken?

I booted to a ME floppy (the win98se didn't work-- reasons unknown), deleted the partition using fdisk, formatted and booted to the XP cd ---- and that's where it's at right now.

Insert ME boot floppy. At a DOS prompt type >fdisk /mbr Note, there is a space between the K and the forward slash /

Once that is done, insert XP CD and follow the above steps again.

[Note to self. Check to see if Vista alters MBR]
