If you buy a version of Windows that upgrades XP to Vista, you will never be able to use your XP CD-Key again on your version of XP, and that just plain sucks.

Read that one for more info on whats new with Vista licensing.

This is why I've got a fresh copy, and not an upgrade version.

I have used a Vista (Business) upgrade key. Upgraded a XP Pro Laptop. Registered Vista, and decided it was to slow on the hardware. Blown Vista away and re-installed XP-Pro with the same key that was upgraded to Vista.

So I have to say from experience that the orginal statement made below is not true.

I've seen that around in various places, and the vista EULA has "clarified" various things that the XP one was a tad vague on. My guess is that M$ won't do anything, or at least not right away. Too easy to get around in any case.

You can install Vista upgrade without involving the XP keys at all. You can do a clean install and bypass XP altogether.

The same install steps work with the Business Upgrade as well. Last week I installed it on my work system and it runs great.
          Hope this helps.
