  • Windows 8.1 Refresh for non administrators

    Hey all,

I've created a custom install of Windows 8.1 Pro using MDT and i want to give users the option to refresh their systems in the event that they have issues when out of the office.

I do NOT want to give them local admin access nor do i want to give them the local admin password but i do want them to be able to restore.

Has anyone tried this and had it work for non admin users?

I have a client who would love this. I don't have any knowledge on how to do that but if you figure it out can you post details?

Getting the image is relatively easy.

Build your required custom image then run a couple of commands

      mkdir c:\refreshImage
      recimg -CreateImage C:\RefreshImage

      https://www.winhelp.us/custom-recove...windows-8.html

However if you try and recover as a user it will drop you to the recovery system outside windows but will require the Administrators password to complete. Obviously we don't want to do that.

I have a work around as follows.

      1. Create a user called recovery
      2. Set password for recovery user account
      3. Add recovery user account to the local administrators group.
      4. Use this account to recover the system.

Still looking into it though for an easier method without using any passwords
