Just posted this on the Petri IT Knowledgebase content site:

Windows 9 Preview Slated for September 30th

It seems like Windows 9 is coming much faster than Windows 7 did after Vista, but that could be my imagination.

Re: Windows 9 Preview Slated for September 30th

I for one am quite pleased Windows 9 is being released so soon. I have colleagues who have just learnt how to deploy Windows 8/8.1 but I stayed with Windows 7 instead of learning a lot of new shit that would be dated in 12 months. Thought I would wait for Windows 9 and then stay with that for the next 4 or 5 years. I absolutely loathe having to learn new operating system, applications, deployment methods etc every 6 or so months. It is a bloody PITA!!!
    1 1 was a racehorse.
    2 2 was 1 2.
    1 1 1 1 race 1 day,
    2 2 1 1 2

Based on what I've heard from readers, you aren't alone -- I think you have a few million people thinking the same thing.

If the tendency of odd versions (NT, XP, 7) for being more stable than even (Millenium, Vista, will continue, I guess the Windows 9 may be true brilliant, and as faster it comes as better for us the customers!

Ha! That's very true. Maybe Microsoft will catch on and start skipping even version numbers.

"Windows 9 will be followed by Windows 11, 13, 15, and then 17."

            Wouldn't it be 9, 11, 12A, 15, 17

Yes, or perhaps something like this (using recent history as a guide):

              - Windows 9
              - Windows 9.1
              - Windows 9.1 Update 1
              - Windows 9.1 Update 1 'Update' (unofficially known as Windows 9.1 Update 2)

And although I'm primarily a PC guy -- I do have a MacBook Air -- I've always loved this dig from Steve Jobs, which underscores how utterly ridiculous/out of touch Microsoft's Windows marketing/product strategy has been at times.

                  Windows 9 Laptop Series

Let's face it, much like 7 is Vista fixed but renamed to avoid the stigma, 9 will pretty much be 8 fixed with ome new features and the return of the Start Menu.

Starting to think that most even versions of Windows are actually public Betas.

hehe - I've just ordered a Win 8 Pro machine. Gotta take the plunge, but based on my experience of 2012 and 2012 R2, I'll probably be upgrading pretty soon

Upgrade to 8.1 immediately and then throw on the Classic Shell and tadaaaa....Windows 7. No need to retrain anyone.

Sorry - my machine will have 8.1. It's my home PC - a new gaming rig to replace my old gaming rig

I can't wait any longer as the old one is 6 years old and is now starting to become a little sluggish.
