  • BSOD when modifying files on redirected Documents fodler

I have two computers crashing when users modify or delete files in their Documents folder, which has been redirected onto a SBS 2003 machine

I have installed the hotfix suggested by Microsoft, but the problem persists

Here is the minidump file without the http

    ://1drv.ms/1pNa5O3

    Thanks

Does it happen only when people edit/delete their documents? If you leave a machine running without any user activity or if they access files elsewhere do the machines keep running?

Only certain files seem to trigger the crash. An editor, for example, can edit Word files all day long, but when she tries to rename a jpeg, it BSODs.

Logging onto another machine, in this case a HP laptop, the same user can make the name change and the laptop remains running.

The two computers in question are Fujitsus. I have tried running their update software and reinstalling the NIC driver using the one from their website. No joy

In that case have you tried deleting their user accounts on the Fujitsu machines and creating new ones?

Have you also run the system file checker to ensure that Windows is in good shape?

Deleted the user profile: problem persists.

            Have run sfc: no problems

The problem does not occur when in Safe Mode.

I'm thinking of maybe a repair install of Windows next?

It's a driver or third party application that is at fault. It looks like you have to do this using msconfig. Open msconfig, make a note of what is enabled with regards to startup applications and the services. Disable the whole lot, then enable one item and reboot and test. If it works, enable the next item, reboot and test. Eventually you will discover which service/application is causing the issue.

Disabled all services and applications, re-enabling a handful at a time before restarting and trying to recreate the problem.

Everything is now back up and running and the pc allows me to delete the file which beforehand would crash it.

                  Bloody computers

Still, keep an eye on it. It may be a transient error and could re-occur.

Well, deleting the user profile opened a can of worms

I'm not at all familiar with this feature as I don't use it on our network. However, one of the things I've learnt is to always document settings and to always backup data before making changes.

Hopefully, it's something that will be sorted out pretty quickly.
