  • bulk migration from windows xp to windows 7 at multiple location

    Hi All,
We have around 1000 workstations (MS Windows XP) at 15 sites connected world wide , Now we want to migrate all these workstations from Windows XP to Windows 7.

    Please guide.

If you have Server 2008 available look into Windows Deployment Services (free option, although will require user intervention at each PC), with SCCM to create zero-touch deployment packages (extra cost involved)

Do your research first, and test well, but the technologies are tried and tested so will work if you plan properly.

If you do not have the skills you need in-house, get training (Microsoft Course 6292 covers all the deployment options) or get a good consultant to work with you.

it means we can do it using SCCM without any user intervention?

Yes, it is called "zero touch deployment" and can (with the appropriate hardware) wake a PC, fetch profiles, install a new OS, re-instate profiles and shut down the PC ready for the user the next day

Both will achieve the same goals, and 2012 is the newest version of a good, stable product so IMHO go for that

Note SCCM is NOT an easy product to use so you should factor in training and time to test things in your plans and budget
