  • No icon on taskbar and no link in Start menu for new users

    Hi

    I'm in Audit Mode.

    I wish that all new users of Windows 7 SP1 had no icon on their taskbar and no link in their Start menu.

    So, how do I do this?

    Thanks

    Bye

    Upgrading them to Windows 8 will deal with the second problem

    Normally, remove start menu items in Default Profile and All Users Profile

    What do you mean by "no icon on taskbar"?

        Re: No icon on taskbar and no link in Start menu for new users

        During the installation of Windows 7 SP1, I went immediately in Audit mode.

        So, after I customized Windows removing the default icons and links from the taskbar and the Start menu, I wrote this Unattend.xml file

        Code:
        <?xml version='1.0' encoding='utf-8'?>
        <unattend xmlns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:unattend">
        <settings pass="generalize" wasPassProcessed="true">
        <component name="Microsoft-Windows-Security-Licensing-SLC" processorArchitecture="amd64" publicKeyToken="31bf3856ad364e35" language="neutral" versionScope="nonSxS" xmlns:wcm="http://schemas.microsoft.com/WMIConfig/2002/State" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance">
        <SkipRearm>1</SkipRearm>
        </component>
        <component name="Microsoft-Windows-PnpSysprep" processorArchitecture="amd64" publicKeyToken="31bf3856ad364e35" language="neutral" versionScope="nonSxS">
        <PersistAllDeviceInstalls>true</PersistAllDeviceInstalls>
        </component>
        </settings>
        <settings pass="specialize" wasPassProcessed="true">
        <component name="Microsoft-Windows-Shell-Setup" processorArchitecture="amd64" publicKeyToken="31bf3856ad364e35" language="neutral" versionScope="nonSxS" xmlns:wcm="http://schemas.microsoft.com/WMIConfig/2002/State" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance">
        <CopyProfile>true</CopyProfile>
        </component>
        </settings>
        </unattend>
        and I put it in the %WINDIR%\Panther directory.

        Then, I wrote the sysprep /generalize /oobe /reboot command in a Command Prompt window.

        Now, I've noticed that new users still have the default icons and link on the taskbar and the Start menu. How come?

        How do I prevent this?

        Thanks

                Not a valid deployment option (unless Windows 8 has changed things)
                Try one or more of:

                3rd party tools
                WDS
                SCCM

                And then give some technical details.

                Alternatively get a consultant and pay them the going rate for the job.

                  In other words, inserting the TaskbarLinks and StartPanelLinks statements in an unattend.xml file, they are used to add icons or links to the taskbar or Start menu.

                  Now, if I wanted to create a default profile for all users when the taskbar and Start menu are completely free of elements, how should I do this?

                  Thanks

                    You can't. The default icons, as far as i know, can only be removed by running scripts.

                      Consider taking the following Microsoft course which, although it will not answer all your questions, will go a long way towards them:

                        Where is this script? How do I apply a script while running the sysprep /generalize /oobe /reboot command?

                            The script will be magically teleported onto your hard drive if you mutter the correct incantation.

                            Should that fail, for the task you are trying to do an the magic word "script" and someone may have developed one already. For example: http://www.google.co.uk/#hl=en&q=run...w=1458&bih=966

                            Should that fail, apply your IT skills to the task instead of expecting the rest of the world to come running every time you have yet another question
