    I installed Workstation 8.x on Windows 7 SP1 Ultimate 64-bit.

Wanting to create a virtual machine with a GPT partitioned disk, I used the Parted Magic 2012 2.19 distribution to do this.

Later, I started the installation of Windows 7 SP1 Ultimate 64-bit but this window is displayed:

    Why?

Because Windows doesn't support it. It has nothing to do with VMware.

    Q. Can Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Windows Server 2008 read, write, and boot from GPT disks?

    A. Yes, all versions can use GPT partitioned disks for data. Booting is only supported for 64-bit editions on UEFI-based systems
