  • Network connection properties, an unknown error has occured

When I right click on any of the network connection icons and choose properties I get an error message stating "an unknown error has occured". The network connection works fine (can surf web, access network resources) but the user needs to be able to set a static IP address.

I am having the issue discussed in this KB. Except for it is Win 7 x64 pro and the solution does not work.

I have tried all kinds of different recommendations from google searching and other forums. I reset the tcp/ip stack and re-registered a bunch of dll's.

I have updated to the latest drivers available from dell.

I am completely stumped at this point, has anybody else seen this before any help would be greatly appriciated.

I suspect it may have something to do with a wan miniport ikev2 vpn connection created by 3rd party software but I am unsure.

Also make sure the computer's BIOS is up to date.

IF that does not help, try installing a different NIC and disable the on-board NIC.
