  • Win 7 Pro Update Issue

    Hi,

So I have two updates that my OS is trying to apply (KB2158563 & KB979538 ) but they fail for some reason. That, in itself, is not a serious problem but the fact that the OS keeps on trying to install them is as it means that each time I boot the system it takes over 5 minutes to reach the logon prompt since it tries to do the post update (pre-boot) stuff. My current workaround is to use hibernate but that's not something I typically do and I'd rather cancel the updates ... anyone know how to do that?

The following is the event log error messages:

Would you care to share what you did to sort it? Your solution may help others that have this issue. Ta.

Re: Win 7 Pro Update Issue

        Hello all.

I ran into this thread with the same problem and managed to stumble on an answer.
This may or may not work for you, but it did for me.

Instead of letting Windows 7 do its updates automatically, I opened up Windows Update from the Control Panel. I selected the two updates for Windows 7 64bit and ran the update manually.

A restart was requested, so I restarted. The same normal 'applying updates' mantra displayed across the screen. The system then restarted normally, finished the application of the updates, and came back up to my login screen in a couple minutes.

        Hope this helps.
