  • Creating a USB bootable disk to install

    Hello,

I am trying to install Windows 7 from a USB drive. It is an old 160 GB USB. I have formatted it.

I try with Windows 7 USB/DVD download tool but in the windows "Step 3 of 4, Insert USB device" , my usb drive does not appear.

I have several usb drives attached to my computer and none of them is seen in that step.

    Thanks in advance.

Its more geared for USB keys than full disks.

      Formatted a 160GB HDD

There is a different method for making USB HDDs bootable. I will have to dig round in my document to find the appropriate instructions. Or I could just Google it. See if that does the trick Luis.

[EDIT] Here's some more reading for you Luis. I haven't tried this so don't know how well it works, http://www.isotousb.com/

        Thanks both.

I googled it and found an utility called RUFUS, which made the trick. And it worked for my 160 GB usb hard drive, which is great because it was kind of idle and useless, and now I can put it into some work.

I hadn't read your suggestion Biggles77, regarding ISOTOUSB.

        It is much appreciated!
