  • Windows 7 Offline files

    Hi all

    Here is the scenario:

Windows Server 2003 Active Directory Domain Controller
Windows Server 2003 R2 File server
    2 x Windows 7 Professional 64 bit Laptops

I am a domain admin and on my Windows 7 laptop offline files was setup quite smoothly, it appears to work fine.

My boss who is local admin on his laptop but not a domain admin is having trouble even getting the first sync to work. It starts happily then fails at random points with random files. His network space totals 2GB. The amount it manages to sync varies from 858MB at the most to as little as 27MB.

I am going to get him to try logging onto my laptop and see if he can sync ok then I will know that the problem is his laptop and not permissions on the network etc...

However if this fails does anyone have any other suggestions to try? I have deleted his roaming profile from both the network and laptop a number of times, restarted the Offline files service, killed the mobsync program, deleted the offline copy and resynced about 20 times now!

    Thanks in advance

    Re: Windows 7 Offline files

    Quick update:

Change of laptop made no difference. So I made him a domain admin and it still fails doing the first sync but I can get it to continue. Before it wouldn't even show in the list of partnerships in the Sync Center.

I guess it must be a permission problem on the home drives share on the 2003 file server?

For me it worked fine on wireless. But I'm now going to wired as 2GB is a lot of data over our poor wireless setup.

        Re: Windows 7 Offline files

After having to sync about 20 times it has eventually synced the whole 2GB. This was with making him a Domain Admin.

        Questions still outstanding:

        * Where is the permission problem?

        * Why does it fail saying "an unexpected network error occurred" in the sync results?

This level of operation is not acceptable. Not happy this doesn't just work out of the box.

          Re: Windows 7 Offline files

I'm quite surprised, we've had no issues with Offline Files at all, it's worked exactly as it should. My boss and I had XP laptops and got Win 7 laptops and it just worked from laptop to laptop with no changes.

We've just moved the File Server to Server 2008 R2 and it's working fine on there as well. All clients are Windows 7 Enterprise x64.
