  • File Search - Windows 7

I'm looking for a file find tool for Windows 7 that is free.
I am not too thrilled with the integrated file search that W7 has.

The findstr command works Ok - but at times I prefer a gui interface.

Does anyone know a good (free) file search download? or how to use XP file search on W7?

I am not a big fan of the XP search util myself and I really like the integrated search in vista and win7.
You can do pretty much the same as in XP plus a lot more IMO.

But MS have alternatively got Windows Search 4.0 if you want to keep it in the family: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/pro.../advquery.mspx

Thanks everyone for your input on this.

I have downloaded both search tools and tested them both. I believe I do prefer the ' Everything ' search tool over the Windows Search 4.0 tool, although the Search 4.0 tool can automatically scan inside *.pst files - which was a handy feature at one time in the past (at work).

I thought Windows Search 4.0 was just an update to the existing Windows search engine, and that Windows 7 already came with the latest version.
