  • win7 64bit & 32bit print server

We have begun installing a few win7 machines at work -
we are having an issue with connecting them to printers on our print servers.

The win7 is a 64bit machine, while the print server is win2003 32bit.

We tried adding the 64bit driver to the print server driver list - this was done easily.... but from here on nothing works. When trying to connect to the printer on the p.server from the win7, it will search for a driver but it won't locate it.... and of course, trying to actually install the 64 bit printer on the 32bit server is a no go.... either locally or when trying to do so from the win7 machine... (all based on suggestions found on the net)...

So - is this at all possible? We are using HP's universal driver (64bit version).

Or will we need a 64bit print server?

    Thanks!

    Hi,

What version of the UPD are you using? Does it support the version of Win7 you use?

Also, try installing the driver directly in the win7 box first to see if it is a driver issue.

had the same problem on my 64Bit 7 PC. Ended up just installing the printers locally by IP address and getting the 64bit drivers.

Also, it may be worth checking if the following is causing any issues: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l.../cc753269.aspx

To disable driver installation warning messages and elevation prompts on computers that are running Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2, in the Point and Print Restrictions dialog box, click Disabled, and then click OK. This setting disables the enhanced printer driver installation security of Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2.

L4ndy, the driver works fine when installed locally on win7... I will check your last message though - hopefully this will help. Thanks,
