  • Windows 7 WSUS SP2 Office 2007 SP2 Update!!

    Hi guys

I just had the most annoying problem with 3 Windows 7 PC's

    2x Windows 7 Pro
    1x Windows 7 Ultimate

we have WSUS SP2 pushing updates to clients, we approved Office SP1 and SP2 for Install

after the install happend and i rebooted.. Windows 7 automatically restarts its self half way through Loading..

i disabled automatic restart on failure.

"Blue Screen; sptd.SYS the driver mistakenly marked a part of its image pageable instead of non-pageable."

    same message on 3 machines.

"Safe Mode" does not work and niether does "Last known Good Configuration"

    Booted into System Recovery Console

The Automatic Startup Repair utility autmatically starts and then after 60 seconds

Displays it cannot automaticaly repair this computer.

    the details are;

    Problem Signature 01: 6.1.7600.16385
    Problem Signature 02: 6.1.7600.16385
    Problem Signature 03: Unknown
    Problem Signature 04: 21201114
    Problem Signature 05: AutoFailover
    Problem Signature 06: 3
    Problem Signature 07: BadPatch

    OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.1
    Local ID: 1033

1 of the other machines had

    Problem Signature 07: OSVersionMismatch

    i have tried everything from

bootfix.exe to sfc /scannow , sfc wont work because it errors that an automatic repair is in progress and requires restart.

i restart and same thing occurs, is there a way to disable the automatic start up repair from running?

I fear a re-install, hopefully this is a good enough pre-warning to those who are using WSUS SP2, although i cant be certain its the update its pretty likely as 3 machines all currupted and all of them restarted after the Office 2007 sp2 patch.

These are geniune Windows 7 machines from the Microsoft Action Pack.

    Any thoughts before i re-install..

    Thanks guys/gals

Was it the actual Office 2007 Service Pack 2 that borked it or was it an SP2 update?

Updating from Microsoft hasn't been a problem nor has installing O2K7 that had SP2 "slipstreamed" onto the DVD.

Will be interesting to see their response.

      2 2 was 1 2.

Yes it was definately "The 2007 Microsoft Office Suite Service Pack 2" KB 953194

Ive created a Virtual Machine with windows 7 and im going to replicate the problem again using WSUS.

Microsoft contacted me late last night when i was out of the office so ill call them today.

sptd.SYS is I believe a non microsoft driver.
You might try removing that driver. Have you installed daemon tools?

I am not sure if it is a typo but that KB refers to something totally different:

              Re: Windows 7 WSUS SP2 Office 2007 SP2 Update!!

Yes Daemon Tools was installed on all 3 machines, but it has been installed for a while.

i only got this problem after the SP2 for office 2007, seems strange and could be co-incidence.

              L4ndy thanks it was a type-o the KB was "953195" not "953194"

I think then that deamon tools and SP2 for office 2007 and or one of a few other Office cirital updates that where installed coul of caused the issue.

and funnily enough in my VM windows 7 i have installed the updates with no problem without daemon tools installed.

              well thanks guys

i guess ill re-format and cancel the MS ticket as they wont care for 3rd party apps in any case.

                You're welcome
Maybe there are some issues between daemon tools and the Office update, dough I don't know why it will cause.
However something has been changed which causes this driver to crash.
