  • USB Disks not displayed in My Computer

I recently installed a fresh copy of Windows XP Pro. i also installed Service Pack 2, installed and updated Macafee 8
    System Specs:
    Pentium III(dell) 700Mhz
    256MB RAM
    Onboard Sound and Display
    40Gig Hard disk

    Problem?
Whenever i plug a USB drive onto it, it detects it perfectly and displays the Safely Remove... like it should. But when i open My Computer, its not there.
I went to Computer Management and its displayed without a drive letter, so i assigned it a drive letter. still not visible in My Computer.
I can only access the contents of the USB Disk via computer management!

This happens with any USB drive, regardless of the make and size!

Any help will be highly appreciated!!!

What happens when you try it on a machine that doesn't have Macafee installed on it?
    1 1 was a racehorse.
    2 2 was 1 2.
    1 1 1 1 race 1 day,
    2 2 1 1 2

I have seen this before. Do you have any network drives (mapped drives)?

If so then it is a known XP bug which Microsot are taking forever to fix! If you have the drive in before you log on then if will appear. Ill try to find the KB article.

is it formatted???, i've actually seen this a lot, make sure its formatted and activated. sometimes these drives come with crazy software already installed and its usually not needed, everytie i get a new flash drive, thumb drive, jump drive, whatever you want to call it, i format it and erase everything.

Try shutting your PC down and boot up with the USB stick in.

This problem doesn't affect only one USB , but any USB stick i attach to this system.

The USB Drives work fine in any other machines

check your USB settings in BIOS
and try to connect something else to your computer USB (printer, camera)
and check how they will work

                      Regards

Excatly. Check to see if the USB ports /hub are working at all.
