You can prompt for a username / password on a per application basis by utilizing the option of a shortcut and some applications. Usually found by doing the following: R-click->properties->advanced->check run with different credentials. You can use runas.exe from the cmd console and when used in combination with the savecred switch you can enter the password once and it will remain until that user logs off or reboots.

The gui will only prompt with a dialog and will not save the password unfortunately. Runas from a batch file might be your best option and you enter the password once a day etc.

If that doesn't work for you, you might look into using a script to enter the password.

Re: run as admin automatically in xp

yeah thanx very much pals....but the issue is tht if they get admin prevlg guys use to mess up like change passwords n flee away..some logoff n then again i've to giv the admin pass....i'hd tried running as admin by rt clik "Run as.." but itz a huge task for me n consumes quite lot of time....

well i think as mr.hinson has said i may need to script the passwords so as to run that particular prog only as "Admin.."

but then again i've no idea at all about scripting...
