  • moving a user profile from one domain to another

    hello,

I want to copy a user profile of a user that is logged to one domain, move
the computer to the second domain with the same name of the first one,
and move the profile so the user could continue working on the same profile.

    Two questions

    1) How? If the user profile folder will have the same name?
furthermore, last time i did it , i just did copy paste and it didn't work. i didn't use the "copy to". -> do i need to do something in the registry.

    2) If a user have a roaming profile can he still work offline without having logon problems (taking alot of time or so).

    thanks

Re: moving a user profile from one domain to another

Domain users will always have profile name as <Profile Name.Domian Name>
So when you change the domain name there will be no chances for conflict.

To retain the settings you should use copyto option from the User Profile

I am not sure how it excatly works in case of Roaming profile.

      As for the duplicate name
      what u said is true.
but because its the same domain name

      it will get user.domainname1

Active Directory Migration tool works very well for this. It will retain all the user's settings. and will even move all their seetings and documents once the log in to the same machine on another domain.
