  • Problem starting windows servises

    Hi

I am trying to start windows service using computer management(through control panel)
but it gives me the following error message
"Could not start the alerter service on local computer Error 5:Access is denied"
Please let me know how I can start this service and why it says access denied

Appreciate any help in this regard

    Thanks

You may lack the privilidges required to start this service.

Are you logged in as Administrator?
What does the event viewer show?

I just checked the Alerter service on my XP Pro SP2 machine and it is disabled and i don't get the option to start it.

But as ahinson say's it may just be a case of incorrect priveliges

Like Wullie the option for me to start this service manually is greyed out. Try changing the service startup type to "Automatic" and rebooting.
