  • Changing Windows 2000 Pro Serial Number

I have purchased a new retail Win2K Pro CD to install on a current machine already running Win2K pro for which I do not have the "Certificate of Authenticity" Should I just boot from the new CD and perform a repair, and will I be able to enter the new CD key, and NOT loose all my current registry? I dont want to perform a new install as it will overwrite all my current programs and settings (or will it not?) Or is there a way to manually enter my new product ID and CD key in the registry? The reason this is even an issue is I can no longer get updates from Microsoft because the current product ID is already running on another machine.
