  • Windows 98 get wrong subnet mask.

    Hi,

I have some Windows 98 computers in the network. They got the wrong subnet mask when getting IP from the DHCP.

    Ex:
    IP : 192.168.2.30
    DNS Server : 192.168.2.2
    Default Gateway : 192.168.2.1
    Subnet mask : 255.0.0.0

No problem with all XP computers.

    Have you met it ?

Re: Windows 98 get wrong subnet mask.

Have you done a Release & Renew on the Win98 machines. Please supply some detailed info as it makes it really hard if we have to guess what steps you have taken.
          1 1 was a racehorse.
          2 2 was 1 2.
          1 1 1 1 race 1 day,
          2 2 1 1 2

Re: Windows 98 get wrong subnet mask.

              Hi,

              Thanks for all replies,

The DC ( including DNS, DHCP Server ) 's using Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition SP1. Current Domain Functional Level is : Windows 2000 Mixed.

Yes, it's in the range of scope I defined on the DHCP Server.

I tried to release and renew, but not helped.

              More details :

DC : Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition SP1 is also DHCP Server, DNS Server.
DHCP Server distributed IP from 192.168.2.11 to 192.168.2.190.
The Server Option including DNS Server :192.168.2.2, Router : 192.168.2.1
              Server's using subnet mask 255.255.255.0

All XP computers getting IP automatically from DHCP Server got correct IP Address, DNS Server Address, Default Gateway Address, Subnet mask : 255.255.255.0.
The Windows 98 computer got correct IP Address, DNS Server Address, Default Gateway Address, but not Subnet mask.( 255.0.0.0).

Re: Windows 98 get wrong subnet mask.

Delete TCP/IP on one Win98 machine and then reinstall. What happens?
                1 1 was a racehorse.
                2 2 was 1 2.
                1 1 1 1 race 1 day,
                2 2 1 1 2
