Strange issue on an XP machine -

Can create and update files, but cannot delete or rename them.

    Have tried the following

Create a new profile - same issue with user
Took the machine off the domain - same issue
    Safe mode - Work fines!
Took ownership of folder \ files - same issue again

Try to rename or delete says Access is denied

    Any ideas - Thanks

    Re: Access denied

In 'normal' mode, can you try this command from a command prompt:

    DEL /P /A /F "\\?\c:\path-to-file\*"

It 'll prompt for confirmation before deleting each file. Answer Y only for the file(s) you realy want to delete, otherwise answer N to continue.

Were you able removing the file(s) by this command??
If not... then run Chkdsk to repair the file system and security descriptors.

i think the first important question is, what files are you trying to rename/delete ?

        Re: Access denied

Was the user able to modify files before, or is this a new user with this problem?

Are the files shared? Anyone else accessing them?

What are the file/folder permissions for the user?
