  • MMC Problem on Windows XP Pro

Is there a way to reload the computer managment MMC in windowx XP Pro. I am unable to access the disk managment snap-in. It keeps telling me the snapin failed to initalize. I tried just going to the MMC and adding it but it gives me the same error? If anyone has any ideas I would appreciate.

Have you tried running diskmgmt.msc from c:\windows\system32?

    And how about this:

You may need to re-register teh relevant dll file for it to work properly.

I would try the following files and see if it helps.

Please try them one by one and let me know which one, if any, fixes it.

        dmdlgs.dll .....Disk Management Snap-in Dialogs
dmdskmgr.dll ...Disk Management Snap-in Support Library
        dmdskres.dll ...Disk Management Snap-in Resources

dmintf.dll .....Disk Management DCOM Interface Stub
        dmocx.dll ......TreeView OCX

dmserver.dll ...Logical Disk Manager service dll
dmutil.dll .....Logical Disk Manager Utility Library
        dmview.ocx .....Disk Management Snap-in

To register the dll files use regsvr32

              Hi,

The Status of the Logical Disk Manager and Logical Disk Manager Administrative Service is Stopped. When I tried to Run it by Right-Click >> Start, I got an error Could not start the Service Name Error: 1068. The dependency service or group failed to start.

When I double click on one of these services, I got another error says: Configuration Manager: The Plug and Play service or another required service is not available.

Tried runing chkdsk /f /r also same. Analzed the Disk by the defragmenter, also same.

              What to do mate?

              Thanks,

              habibalby

Re: MMC Problem on Windows XP Pro

                HI once again,

The problem solved by Enable the Plug and Play Service. Then, went to the Logical Disk Manager and Logical Disk Manager Administrative Service, Started them and now I can see the Drives that I have.

                Thanks for your help.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.

Glad to see you have it fixed. Usually the first thing to check is the dependencies of the service that has failed to start. This will allow you to see what service is required for it to start thus allowing you to debug further.

Were there any logs as to why the P+P service had stopped??

Re: MMC Problem on Windows XP Pro

Actually, Iím @ work now and this case is my home P.C. Anyhow, I have to check the Event Viewer why the P+P has been stopped.

But, the HDD where the OS is installed I already converted from Basic Disk to Dynamic Disk. Does that make an issue in order to add a new Basic Disk?

While, if I have to add new Basic Disk?
