  • Windows XP crashed when I connect through RDP

My PC is always running, I never shut it down, and I mostly use it through RDP with my laptop.
Both are running XP with SP3 and the latest patches.

Every day, when I come home, I start my laptop, start MSTSC and start using my PC.
When I am done, I disconnect from my PC and hybernate my laptop.

    Never a problem.

But, sometimes, I use another computer, a server when I am on a course or an XP station at a client, for instance, to connect to my PC, which works fine too.
But then, when I come home and use my laptop again to connect to my PC, my PC immediately crashes and restarts.

I have tested this with my PC and with 2 VM's running on ESX 3.5i and all 3 machines have this issue.

Does anybody have any idea how to fix this ?
    Regards,
    SnijdeA.

    Anything logged in event viewer?

Latest drivers for NIC and graphics card(s) being used?

when you're on the work computer, do you log off, or just disconnect your session?

If the resolutioins are different (for instance, you have a 22" monitor at work and a 15' laptop) then it might crap itself there, and cause problems on the video drivers

but yea, i'd try get the BSOD Captured as that's the best way to figure it out

        Events : Error code 1000008e.
        Latest drivers, yes.
        On hardware, all latest drivers.
On VM, the ESX package, should be good.

Interesting, the resolitions ... they are different, but I never have that problem with my server, only the XP machines.
          I disconnect btw.

error code 1000008e is, in your scenario anyway, most likely Kernel_Mode_Exception_Not_Handled

            or, Error_Busy_Drive

You don't pass-through your local drives do you ?

What if you log off instead of disconnecting?

Is your PC virtualized or is it a physical machine?

My PC is physical and 2 VM's have the same issue.
