  • coverting domain user to administrator on local machine

We have a windows 2003 server with windows xp laptops. At times we need to convert the user on the laptop to have admin rights and then convert back to power user after few days. Is there anyway in which i can achieve this through group policy or login script without going to that machine physically

Is this a domain user or a local (only) user account?

for "restricted groups" which can be applied through group policy.
No problem adding domain users to them and, AFAIK, as long as the same local account exists on all machines, that can be added too.

This will be a domain user account which needs to have local machine admin rights on case to case basis for different users for their individual laptops

Restricted groups will work elegantly -- just have an OU with the policy applied to it, then move the machine into that OU for the settings to work, move out again when finished
