  • I want to make No Sounds The Default for all new users on my XP Pro PC

    Hello,

this is my first post - I hope it is up to par

I want to make the default sound for all new users of my PC to be No Sounds.
I found this article on the Petri web site and followed the instructions:

    http://www.petri.com/change_to_no_so...by_default.htm

However, after creating a new "Test" account to see if it worked, i found a sound scheme was still active. Technically it is not the ".Default" sound scheme, the scheme is listed as "blank" under the control panel applet for sound.

I have retried creating new accounts several times but each time the same "blank" sound scheme is still in use.

    My PC is:
Windows XP Pro v2002 SP3 - Fully up to date with microsoft automatic updates.
Internet explorer 8 (tho i prefer to use safari as my web browser).

I will, of course, post any further details you may require.

Many thanks in advance for any help you offer.

Are you referring to the 'beep' sound? That is not always affected by the sound scheme.

You can disable it by opening Device Manager, View>Show Hidden Devices, expand Non-Plug and Play Drivers, right-click Beep and select Disable

    No more beeps!

On my PC at work I don't have to disable it for a 'quiet' PC. However, I have had to disable it on other machines even when 'No Sounds' has been set as the sound scheme for a user.

No .. this has nothing to do with the computer beep.

This is simply to disable windows sounds by default.

The solution posted on the Petri website does not work for my computer.

I was wondering if anyone else had tried it and what results they get, if they do try it.

Simply follow the instructions in the url i mention in my first post and see if any new users (presumably, a test user for most people) have the default sound scheme with the annoying windows login/logout noises (et al) or if in fact, sound scheme "None" has been activated for your new user.

A better response would have been to suggest an alternative text for the article or to PM someone with that information.

By refusing to visit again you are missing out on a wealth of valuable content compiled by those who are 'in the trenches' so to speak.

Fist of all, if you have such an attitude I'm glad you are leaving...
Second, I haven't test either of the possible solutions but have you ever thought about it there are multiple ways which can lead you to Rome?

Either way you don't show any professionalism and if you want to stay I suggest to change your attitude.
