Re: offline files access denied after changing computer's name

We could do with more information on your problem. Is the PC on a domain? what OS 2000 or XP? what server OS? etc

From what you have said though you more or less answered your own question. Renaming a PC can cause problems check you event logs for Userenv and LsaSvr events these are tell tale signs that the change of name is causing concern.

yeah the workstation is windows xp sp3 which came from other domain.
changing the workstation name definitely caused problem accessing those files though I can reach some of them without any problem.
I was wondering if I can to preform some actions (or with specific application) on thoose files and get into the data...

I tried to copy the files to other folder, some of them copied fine and some won't copy.
I was trying to open some of them and got message "access denied"

          thanks

Re: offline files access denied after changing computer's name

Ok I think you need to check file properties against those that will copy and those that wont' for starters. Obviously you know what permissions they should have.

Your being vauge as to the information you supply. You need to supply more information

            1. What domain was the PC on 2000, 2003 or 2008?
            2. What domain was it moved to 2000, 2003 or 2008?
            3. Did you remove the PC from the original domain in the prescribed manor?
            4. What HAVE you tried already in order to resolve this?
