  • WinXP SP3 on Core2Duo

    Hi folks,
I have just been charged with troubleshooting an issue at my company that I discovered. Basically, we just bought a ton of Dell E6400 machines and they come with win 7 64bit. But, we had to downgrade to WIN XP SP3, however it seems that the XP will not recognize the two core, it sees only one processor. I need to fix this, if not my desktop admins will have to create a new image and have to redo the better part of 300 machines. I cannot find an ACPI driver or even documentation that will help me fix this image.

    Any feedback would be appreciated.

XP will NOT utilise the Dual Cores unless the application being used has been written to utilise them both. eg Adobe Photoshop will use bothe cores.

XP will recognise that the machine does have 2 processors. Look in Task Manager

If only a single core look in Device Manager.
