  • Image Files and Corrupted MBR

Suppose you have created an Image File of a Bootable Partition ( C:\ Drive )

Sometime after this you suspect that the MBR of the drive has become corrupted .

    Question :-

Will restoring the Image File , assuming this will be possible after MBR corruption , will the Image File also restore the MBR ?

Why not just repair the MBR?

Thanks for the reply . I suppose that would be the sensible thing to do. However , I am just curious as to whether an Image File taken before the MBR became corrupted would , after a restore , also repair the MBR .

I suppose what I'm really asking here is , does an Image file of , say , the Boot Partition contain the MBR which existed when the File was formed .

A bit of an academic question I admit but I'm neverthe less qurious as to the answer.

Re: Image Files and Corrupted MBR

In my experience quite a few imaging programs are a bit hit and miss with stuff like that. About a year ago I put a new HDD into my MD's laptop and used Acronis True Image to transfer it, which I've used in the past. On this occasion I had to boot to the recovery console and run a fixboot and fixmbr to get it to work.

Theoretically restoring the image should also restore the MBR, but in practice I've had about 50/50 success.

I Dont think so all the image files take the backup of MBR, but there r some programs which take even tht like acronis true image .......i use the same software to restore if my windows gets crashed or infected........so can restore in minutes......
