  • Remote shutdown

    hello everyone


    i have two xp pro machine connected throw asus router .

    my problem is that when i'm trying to shutdown my children machine i get an access denied error.

    i use the command line : shutdown /m \\machine ip /s /f

    please help. thanks

    Try:

    Shutdown /i

    Then set the appropriate options and add the two IPs.

      Do you actually have permission to do that? Unless you've changed the required permissions, you need to be an administrator on the computer - which if you're in a workgroup means you either need to have a account on the other computer with the same username and password, or you need to authenticate as part of the action, which I don't think shutdown.exe supports. I'd suggest using psshutdown instead.

      Or psexec.

        It sounds like a user rights issue to me. What OS and are you on a domain or workgroup?
        Make sure you have the appropriate user right on the target computers.
