  • XP slow to access files across network w/ Explorer

XP Pro, sp2, all critical updates applied, 100MB nic. This PC is slow to open any files that reside on any server when trying to open it using My Computer or Windows Explorer.

But when opening any files from within the application itself such as Microsoft Word using the File menu the file comes up lighting fast.

    I have tried:
    - ipconfig /flushdns
    - to browse using ip addresses instead of server names
    - turning off simple file sharing
    - Adding the SuppressionPolicy DWORD value to the registry as per MS article 829700
    - turning off the antivirus software

Any ideas anyone? Suggestions are highly appreciated!
