  • Can't connect from one pc to another using Remote Desktop

    Hi,

the problem is in the title,i'm talking about lan connections, all the computers in the lan are domain members (server 2003 active directory).

i can connect from my computer to any other using remote desktop,
but not to one specific computer.
if i try,i have to wait about 2 minutes for the login window to show up,
after i login i just see blank screen, maybe the taskbar or some icons
but that's it.i guess the problem is VERY slow connection,
but why is it happening? and only with one specific computer?

I'm confused. Are you trying to connect to an XP machine from another XP or Server 2003 machine?

If you are trying to RDP to an XP machine, is it XP Pro or XP Home?
Is it a member of Active Directory or a member of a Workgroup?
Is it patched up to date?
          1 1 was a racehorse.
          2 2 was 1 2.
          1 1 1 1 race 1 day,
          2 2 1 1 2

Well, all the workstations ahve the same software? no extra program that can use tcp/ip protocol ? Try checking your ethernet cable or NIC, never know.

Is remote desktop enabled on the other PC???

Just because you can RDP from the machine doesn't mean you can RDP to the machine.

I'd also be checking for a firewall installation whether it be Windows firewall or AN OTHER

of course it's enabled,i wrote in the first post, that i CAN get to pc,even sometimes see the icons and taskbar, but it's extremely slow and gets stuck every time.there's no windows firewall enabled on any pc.

You haven't mentioned checking the above.

the problem was the ethernet cable...but not the one connecting the pc to the wall, but the one at the switch...unbelievable.
