  • It is the stuoid "ping" again!!

Ok, my PC (XP pro) is connected to a switch n to my win2k server.
It grap IP address from the server and also goes to the Internet thru the same Proxy server.
On the Server, i can ping any website by name and also ping my XP pro. But on my XP pro, i can ping all address by IP but not hst name. The only host name i can ping is the DC also acting as the DHCP, DNS, Proxy server.
    What is wrong?

You server does not have DNS forwarders setup to your ISP, and thus cannot resolve external address'.

Your dns must forward the DNS request of your XP.
What type of internet share you have?
      NAT, ICS?

You have one dns server on your network. Go to mm console /dns server properties/ forward tab/ check enable forward / type your isp dns's/

Your XP client must have your dns on the ip properties.

              NO.
Go to your proxy computer/command prompt/cmd/type ipconfig/ you will see DNS entries.

But this proxy computer is the DC,DNS,DHCP server. So the DNS entries is its own IP: 192.168.1.1, No?

                  ok how to setup..

if w2k server. remove de "." zone.
then setup de dns servers in the properties from de dns service (like topper described)
how to know you're ISP dns servers?
just look at the documentation of you're ISP. they must described it!

let you're servers nic look at his own DNS
Let the clients look at the servers dns
