  • FDD and HDD hardware installation within Windows [Was:A simple WindowsXP PRO question

My system frequently lose contact with my floppy drive. And I'm in the struggel of instaling a SATA hardrive( Internal). To be able to do that my floppy need to function. And I want to try another driver.

Can someone give a suggestion for a couple of good ones for Win XP PRo and a Athlon/nVidia equipent?

    Thanx

    What does lose contact mean?
    It disappears from Device Manager?
It is appears disabled in Device Manager due to a Code 10 error?
It does not show up in Disk Management?
It shows up in Disk Management but you can't browse a floppy disk?
Have you tried another floppy drive?
Have you tried a different floppy cable?
Check and see if the pins on the motherboard port are all straight and that they are ALL there and accounted for. I have seen pins become disconnected and not make proper contact.

      Furthermore:
      • Are you trying to install drivers at the same time that you are installing the OS? Meaning, are you booting from the installation CD and then pressing F6 to install the drivers?
      • Or is the OS already installed and your trying to install it from within Windows?
      • Can you download the drivers from the manufacturer and install the drivers straight form the hard drive?
