  • Writing batch file to run multiple exe files

Hi, I have a question about batch file here... i need to run 4 Microsoft office hotfix on 160 isolated machines...
How do i write the batch to execute the 4 hotfix 1 by 1 ? (started 1 by 1 in order) without user intervention.. becoz i gonna send the 4files and *.bat to oss, to ease their work. The centralized push is not work.

    4 hotfix: a.exe , b.exe, c.exe, d.exe

    msiexec.exe /p c:\a.exe /qb- /L*i c:\hotfix.txt
    msiexec.exe /p c:\b.exe /qb- /L*i c:\hotfix1.txt
    msiexec.exe /p c:\3.exe /qb- /L*i c:\hotfix2.txt
    msiexec.exe /p c:\4.exe /qb- /L*i C:\hotfix3.txt

    is this correct ??

You can use qchain from Microsoft.

With 160 machines, why do you not have WSUS installed and doing the job for you?

I concur with Biggles - WSUS would be a much better way to ensure these patches are applied, as well as allowing you to configure a more wide-spread automatic patching system... designate a number of test workstations etc.. in some instances, you can also use WSUS to roll back patches that haven't worked properly..

thank you all for the reply . unfortunately... no wsus.. becoz only use novell... and that machine are isolated, no connect to windows server at all. my oss refused to install the 4 pathes 1 by 1 ... that's why i am thinking to send to all users and ask them to execute by themselves...

What version of Novell are you using? I seem to remember from my Netware days (many, many years ago) that they had a tool to install software remotely. Buggered if I can remember the name of the app at the moment.

Re: Writing batch file to run multiple exe files

Just a slight aside -- WSUS does not require active directory (but it makes it easier)
                  http://thelazyadmin.com/blogs/thelaz...Directory.aspx

So with a bit of registry tweaking, and a windows server (absolute requirement) you can roll out WSUS in a novell environment
