  • XP installation sees only partial drive

    Hi guys,

I'm installing a fresh copy of XP Pro on my pc, however, when creating a new partition to install windows, it only sees 131Gb out of the 1000Gb.
I've tried a new 250Gb sata drive, but it still only sees 131Gb.

    I've a Asus P5Q Deluxe motherboard, 2Gb Ram, Intel Core2Quad Q9550 cpu.

I don't find anything in the BIOS I could change that might help.

    Anyone have any ideas?

It could be a couple of things (BIOS, HDD, or XP version) but I suspect it's the XP version you installed. Have you installed at least SP1? If not then do that. Here's a nice reference article for you regarding the issue:

Thanks brother! I have an XP Pro cd, and SP1 and SP2 on a separate CD. I think you're right

Glad to help. Let us know if the SP installation solves it for you.

I suggest using nLite to slipstream SP3 onto the XP install CD to save this problem in the future and save time installed the SP once XP is installed. nLite is the easiest way I have found to slipstream a Service Pack onto any MS operating system.
