  • Problem with Hebrew files in XP

    Hi,

I am using XP SP3. I have enabled Hebrew.
I am able to copy, create and read Hebrew files. However when embedded in a winzip file created in a different PC, the Hebrew files appear as gibbrish (ex: 8.11.xls).
I have a similar problem in outlook where mails and folders created in Hebrew in a different computers appear in gibbrish too.

    I would appreciate any ideas.

    Regards, Michael.

Sounds like encoding problem. NTFS has support for unicode file names, but does the receiving system have support for Hebrew enabled too? Does your version of Winzip have support for Hebrew? I tried zipping a file with an older version of WinRAR, and it couldn't handle files wiht Hebrew characters at all.

IIRC, Hebrew is written backwards, so Windows XP doesn't support it out of the box. Are fonts for Hebrew alphabets installed? Are the file contents OK even if the names are broken?
