  • I am unable to get WinXP to install

I am getting a black screen that reads as follows:

Reboot and Select proper Boot device
or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key.

After I insert the XP Pro cd it still comes up with this message again. Can anyone help.

    Thanks!

Is your bios set to allow booting from CD?
Some do allow pressing a key sequence to enable you to choose your boot device, sometimes Esc or a function key. Do you see anything like that?

Have you tested the CD elsewhere as well?

How do I set the bios to boot from CD. I know how to get into the bios but would need help from there... I have tested the CD in the computer that I am currently on. Everything is fine with the CD.

Well it depends on your bios type but there are few here:

PC or laptop? If PC, try pressing the DEL (Delete key) then scrolling through the BIOS until you find Boot Sequence. Choose CD as Primary Boot. You could also try F12 or F10 and choose CD as the boot device. The F10 & F12 also work on some laptops.
