  • Cannot move/copy to desktop

Hey Guys... I need a hand here

I have a 2003 AD and users log on to workstations as members of Domain users.

    The problem is:

Some of my users have a folder on c: that contains diffrent stuff, and they must move this stuff to their desktop.
They get a "cannot move, access is denied" when trying to move or copy from this folder to their desktop. everyone have full access on the folder and as I believe the users also have full access to their own desktop.
When checking NTFS-permissions on "documents and settings/username/desktop" the user have all permissions...

Have also tried to copy a file from a random folder on c: to their desktop with the same result.

When I login as domain admin I can copy all I want to the desktop offcourse.

The users can also create folders, delete files and so on on their own desktop... the only thing they are denied is to copy files from a folder on c: and paste it on their desktop...

    What am I missing?

    Re: Cannot move/copy to desktop

This question is not about Active Directory!
--> thread moved to "Windows 2000 Pro, XP Pro" Forum.

torcar, what are the client's OSs exactly?

Does the user try to move files from a folder, not the folder it self. Kan s/he copy/delete file by file?
Please show a vCacls.vbs result, from one of the files the user cannot move.

      Re: Cannot move/copy to desktop

      The OS is XP SP2/3.

The users cannot move the folder, a single file at a time or several files at once. Move/copy makes no difference.

Hope it's a simple detail i've missed, but I'm stuck at the moment.

      Not familiar with vCacls.vbs

oops typo, should be xcacls.vbs (a resourse kit tool)

The possible explanations for this issue where I can think off are,

        - insufficient ntfs permissions on the source files (or on a file with the same name in the destination folder)
        - insufficient ntfs permissions on the folder (source or destination) / subfolders
        - the source file could have the read-only attribute set
        - or, the read-only attribute is set on a same named file in the destination folder
        - one or more files could be 'in use' by some program
        - problems with the harddrive.
