  • Help assigning Static IP and Virtual IP on WinXP

I'm a newbie at all this so bear with me.

My home configuration is a winxp pc, a linksys ata (for taking calls from my analogue phone and converting to sip), a winxp laptop. All are behind a netgear wifi router that is connected to a dsl modem. The laptop connected by wireless to netgear.

My Local network TCP/IP properties obtains IP address automatically and DNS server automatically.

I have static internal ip adress setting of 10.0.0.5 for my linksys ATA.

I would like to change my setting to a Static IP for my internal (local) network adapter.

I tried an IP address of 10.0.0.2, subnet mask 255.255.255.0 and default gateway of 10.0.0.1. If I enter these instead of having "obtain IP address automatically", I can't connect to the internet (I turned my Firewall off as well).

The reason for static ip's on my adapter is that a PBX soft switch I'm using needs to "bind" to one address and then I need to create a "virtual ip" at another address, say 10.0.0.3, to bind an ASR (automatic speech recognition) server. There are some problems running both the soft switch and ASR all on the same winxp pc and this was recommended.

Anyway, I would like to set this up and I've never done that before. Could someone outline the steps.

    Thanks.

    Set the DNS server addresses.

OK, since I've never done that what do I set DNS server addresses to?

      Thanks.

Use the same addresses that are being applied to your physical adapter. Start->Run->Cmd<enter>->ipconfig /all

It should look something like the following:

        Code:
        Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]
        (C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.

        C:\Documents and Settings\Andrew>ipconfig /all
