  • Where should I put Pagefile on Raid 0 config?

    Hello,
I have 2-WD 120GB set up in a Raid 0 configuration using on-board IDE promise raid controllers. I also have an IBM 120GB 7200RPM drive on a seperate IDE controller. I was thinking of putting my OS and page file on the raid 0 drives but putting the page file on a separate partition as the OS. Or would putting the page file on the IBM drive give me better performance?

Note: This is largely a gaming PC
    Hardware:
    Gigabyte GA-8IHXP MB
    2.8 GHz Proc
    1GB Rambus PC1066
    ATI Radeon 9700 Pro

    Thanks much for any suggestions!

RAID0 is far better for I/O than other disk configurations.

However in your case I'm not 100% sure it will help. My reasons are:

    - You're talking IDE, not SCSI, so you're talking about less performance to start with.

    - Placing the PF on a different partition might help with fregmentation issues, but performance will not increase, perhaps even decrese.

I would place the PF on the other drive and configure it to the default size - i.e RAMX1.5 min and max. I would also keep a 10mb PF on the system drive, just in case the other disk fails.

Anyway, you can test performance quite easily, so in your case it's simply a matter of comparing performance.
