  • Hide Updates in Add/Remove Programs

    Win 2000 Pro SP4
In Win XP Pro there is a tickbox allowing you to show/hide Windows Updates in Add/Remove Programs.

Does anyone know how you can achieve the same thing in Windows 2000 Pro (SP4), where this tickbox does not appear ?
(Or, can I make the tickbox appear?)

    Thanks in advance.

Re: Hide Updates in Add/Remove Programs

    Hi,

I think you are referring to the Add or remove programs Filter.
I am not sure if this can be done in a windows 2000 sp4 machine or is it hard coded, but you can have a look in the registry in the following location:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Policies \ Uninstall

See if there is a REG_DWORD named DontGroupPatches
and set the value to 0.
If it's not there just create it with the same value.

---Please Backup the registry before making any changes.

Let us know the outcome so we know if W2k supports it.

I just tested what L4ndy suggested and it did not work. I had to create the Uninstall key and the dword.

Thanks for posting the results Akitafan,

That means is not supported in win2k as GForce also stated.
The registry key above is supported in XP and above I believe, if anyone wanted to change that beheaviour.

        Cheers

          Hello, this is the OP.
Akitafan got there before me, thanks for doing that.

Another idea: I know you can turn on "entertainment" entries in Add/Remove Programs by removing HIDE in the file C:\WINNT\inf\sysoc.inf.
Perhaps there is an entry in that file that could hide the Windows updates ?

PS. Vista's version of Add/Remove Progs - another interface disaster ?

            Hi,

I doubt there will be because if it was then the registry key above would have done the trick.
However, I am happy to hear if anyone can prove me wrong.
