  • upgrade w2k to win xp pro

    Hi,

    I currently have w2K.

I bought win xp pro sp2 full retail version (from amazon.com) and was sure the description indicated that I could use it to upgrade from w2k to win xp pro but

it just arrived and on the front of the box it says:

"for pcs with windows 95 or earlier, or pcs without windows"

Should I send it back (I have not opened the box)?

If so, what do I need to buy?

Note, I want the full retail version, not just the upgrade.

    Thanks for any advice.

Sounds to me like you have the correct version.

"for pcs with windows 95 or earlier, or pcs without windows"

The upgrade path for XP is here

Re: upgrade w2k to win xp pro

IIRC the full version will do either as an upgrade or as a fresh install, while the "upgrade" version will only allow upgrades

So as Wullie said, your versions should be fine

Having said that, your Windows 2000 PC will very likely have several years of accumulated junk, bloated registries etc, so a fresh install might be a good idea!
