  • Search network drive

I am having a weird problem in Windows Explorer. I have mapped up a network drive in XP Pro that works fine, H:\\server\folder. When I use Windows Explorer to search for a file in the folder, nothing is found, eventhough I know the file is there. After experimenting a little I disconnected the drive and reconnected using the server IP address, H:\folder. Then I searched for the file again and Windows Explorer found it.

I have tried to search for a solution on Google, but I didn't find anything. Can this be some DNS problem? Any ideas for a solution?

    Re: Search network drive

Is there anything in the folder???

Does your system use a HOSTS file???

Can you browse to the system using its FQDN??? This will tell us if it is a DNS issue.

Clear your DNS cache using ipconfig /flushdns

Do you use WINS on your network???

      hi just a suggestion.

You could try to delete the file and then recreate it, checking the correct permissions in the share/security tabs.

Also worth checking if the problem exists from another workstation.
