  • Installation of XP onto a Partition containing Win 2000

I want to replace Win 2000 with XP . When I boot the PC containing Win 2000 with the XP Installation Disk , one of the choices I get is to delete the partition containing Win 2000 and then install XP onto the unformatted space. Does this mean that it won't be necessary to firstly re-format this space before proceeding with the XP installation ? Is this re-formatting performed automatically by the XP Installation process ?

That's right - if you choose that option the entire partition will be irrevocably erased and XP will be installed in the space left behind. Make sure you have saved any profiles and/or data you need to retain!
