  • Poor system speed

    Hi all,
I recently added more RAM to take my machine from 512 to 1.5Gb. I thought that the price of RAM had come down a lot so why not treat myself and make my machine fly.

Huh! it seems slower if anything. I have just formatted and re-installed XP pro, office2007 and a few other apps.

I have just run an optimising program on my internet connection, RAM and services.

My CPU is running at 1668Mhz

Surely my machine should be quick?????

    Any tips gratefully received

    Re: Poor system speed

You need to provide much more info.
    Speed is all relative...

Are you overclocking, running certain apps, what gfx card, raid, what "optimisation" program, have you defragged, what are you comparing it to, latest windows updates, what "few other apps", what motherboard, what speed ram, ram in pairs or singles, have you setup your pagefile, have you gone back to 512 to see if it is quicker again
    cheers
    Andy

      Re: Poor system speed

      More info is needed.

How many sticks did you start with?
How many do you have now?
What is the speed of each stick?
What does the BIOS report the memory speed as?
If you remove the new memory, does it seem faster?

Is the RAM you installed the correct RAM for your PC? Check out www.crucial.com for their RAM selector utility on their front page. Check you have the correct RAM.
